Following in the footsteps of Gabriel Fauré, with whom he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, the French composer Gabriel Grovlez (1879–1944) had a delightful way of handling beautiful harmonies and melodic curves. In 1929, like many composers of his time, he was commissioned by the Paris Conservatoire to write a work for the oboe competition. Sarabande et Allegro was the result.
