元々はチェロ・ソナタの緩徐楽章として構想されたフォーレの憂鬱なエレジーは、1880年に作曲されました。シチリアーナは1893年に管弦楽曲として誕生し、1898年にフォーレ自身によってチェロとピアノ用に編曲され、モーリス・メーテルリンクの戯曲『ペレアスとメリザンド』の有名な付随音楽の一部として採用されました。フランスを代表する音楽学者ロイ・ハウアットによるこの原典版には、序文、解説、そして模範的な楽譜が掲載されています。ピアノ伴奏譜とチェロの別パート譜も含まれています。

Originally planned as the slow movement of a Cello Sonata, Fauré composed his melancholy Elégie in 1880. The Sicillienne started life as an orchestral work in 1893 and was arranged by Fauré for cello and piano in 1898 before finding its place as part of his famous incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck's playPelléas et Mélisande. This Urtext edition by leading French music scholar Roy Howat contains a preface, commentary and exemplary presentation of the score. Includes piano accompaniment and separate cello part.
